Description
The play stages a face-to-face encounter between an atheist Jew and a God whose absence weighs heavily. Jacques Sojcher reflects on the loss of his father, who was murdered at Auschwitz, and addresses a voice that exists only in his mind: the voice of God. Through this intimate and profound dialogue, he questions the God of the Covenant and the absence of miracles, while also exploring more broadly the religions of the Book and their messianic promises.
The performance will be followed by a musical interlude by Clothilde Van Dieren, who will perform Ravel’s Kaddish.
A twenty-minute conversation between Jacques Sojcher and a moderator will then offer an opportunity to further explore the questions and reflections raised by the play.
The evening will conclude with a drink.
Biography
Jacques Sojcher is Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at the University of Brussels and a member of the Royal Academy of Belgium. He is the author of numerous poetry collections published by Fata Morgana, as well as several essays, including La démarche poétique, Nietzsche, La Question et le sens, and Paul Delvaux ou la passion puérile. He has also published a novel, Jacki est sage, as well as several plays.
