Cette carte reprend le trajet (en brun) que suit le 20e convoi depuis la caserne Dossin de Malines, point de départ de la déportation en Belgique, jusqu’à la frontière allemande. Chaque numéro correspond au matricule que l’occupant avait attribué aux déportés, et leur position sur la carte indique les différents lieux d’évasion. Les couleurs signalent le sort des évadés :

  • Vert      : n’a pas été repris par l’occupant allemand
  • Jaune    : a été repris, déporté dans un convoi ultérieur et n’a pas survécu la guerre
  • Bleu      : a été repris, mais a survécu la guerre
  • Rouge   : tué lors de l’attaque

Les parenthèses qui accompagnent certains numéros indiquent qu’il s’agit de déductions, réalisées à partir de recoupements entre différentes sources. Les numéros dépourvus de parenthèses correspondent à des témoignages directs.

Les lettres renvoient aux photographies prises entre 2020 et 2022 par Jo Struyven, et qui sont visibles dans cet espace d’exposition.

Deze kaart toont het traject (in bruin) van het 20ste konvooi vanaf de Dossinkazerne in Mechelen, startpunt van de deportatie in België, tot aan de Duitse grens. Elk nummer komt overeen met het nummer dat de bezetter aan de gedeporteerden had toegekend en hun positie op de kaart toont de verschillende ontsnappingsplaatsen. De kleuren geven het lot van de ontsnapte gevangenen aan:

  • Groen:   werd niet opnieuw opgepakt door de Duitse bezetter
  • Geel:   werd  opnieuw opgepakt, gedeporteerd in een later konvooi en overleefde de oorlog niet
  • Blauw:   werd opnieuwopgepakt, maar overleefde de oorlog
  • Rood:    gedood tijdens de aanval

De haakjes bij bepaalde getallen geven aan dat het om een deductie gaat, gemaakt door verschillende bronnen te vergelijken. De nummers zonder haakjes verwijzen naar directe getuigenissen.

De letters verwijzen naar de foto’s die tussen 2020 en 2022 door Jo Struyven zijn gemaakt en die in deze tentoonstellingsruimte te zien zijn.

This map shows the itinerary in Belgium (in brown) that the 20th convoy followed from the Dossin barracks in Mechelen, where deportees were held, to the German border. Each number corresponds to the number that the Nazis assigned to the deportees. Their positioning on the map indicates the places where people were able to escape. The colours indicate the fate of the escapees:

  • Green: not recaptured by the Germans
  • Yellow: recaptured, deported on a later convoy, and did not survive the war
  • Blue: recaptured, but survived the war
  • Red: killed in the attack

Numbers with parentheses indicate that these are assumptions, made after cross-referencing different sources. Numbers without parentheses correspond to direct testimonies.

The letters refer to photographs taken between 2020 and 2022 by Jo Struyven, which are on display in this exhibition space.
